Pattern: Mewtwo Amigurumi + UPDATE

Wow, I haven't posted anything since July? That's even worse than I thought. Whoops.
So yeah, life basically exploded and I haven't had the ability/ motivation to crochet in a while. But that's going to change soon! The winter months are coming and it's about time to get back into the swing of things. I have tons of stuff that I plan to do, and things are going to start changing around here.

For starters, I am going to go through and update all of the PDF patterns. The pictures for some of the patterns are kind of bad and don't accurately represent the colors. And since I've recently learned how to better edit my photos in Photoshop, I've decided that all of the pictures are getting redone. I've also been thinking about revamping the layout of the patterns, making them easier to read and adding more details (I've been meaning to add a tips section for a while now).

Plus, I have a new thing that is going to be happening on the blog. I have TONS of patterns that I've made that just aren't up to par. I was just going to let these "failed" patterns rot in the depths of my computer, but I've come up with a plan:

Failed Pattern Fridays

Basically every Friday I will upload a  pattern solely to the blog, not on Ravelry or Etsy or anywhere else. These patterns will be 100% free and you can use them however you wish. I hope that they can be of use to someone, because I certainly am not going to do anything with them.

And that's just the tip of the update iceberg. For now, have a pattern.

A 10" tall Mewtwo amigurumi. The pattern is available on Ravelry or in my Etsy shopIf you have any questions, feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

Just one thing to note here: I started to try out making the patterns a little more easily readable, and one of the things I did was add more spaces between some parts in the pattern. These spaces mean nothing, just continue with the pattern as if they never existed. Another thing to note: Mewtwo does have a mouth, you just can't see it in any of these pictures. It is a few rows under the nostrils and is just one little line. I mention this just in case anyone sees the "embroider mouth" instructions and gets confused. When I update the patterns, I'll include a picture of it.

With this amigurumi I decided to try something new. Instead of the typical "cute" style of big head, big eyes, small body, I wanted to try a more realistic design. I googled pictures of Mewtwo and chose a random pose for him to be standing in and tried my best to get the proportions correct. Not bad for a first attempt I think, and it was pretty fun to make. Expect more "realistic" amigurumi to be coming eventually.

This was also my first time using sewing thread to embroider anything. Jeez, and I thought I hated using felt because I couldn't get the pieces to match. Trying to get the irises the same size was definitely a challenge, but I do like how it turned out. I would probably use purple felt instead of thread for the eyes, but I didn't have any. I recommend anyone making this pattern to try felt first before resorting to embroidery (provided you're bad at it like me).

Anyway, apologies for the lack of patterns. I am particularly happy with how my newest pattern is turning out. Expect it to be uploaded within the next week, and I will see you next Friday for the first edition of Failed Pattern Friday. Happy Holidays! :)

Pattern: "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" Amigurumi

An 8" tall mouse amigurumi with a cookie from the children's book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. The pattern is available on Ravelry or in my Etsy shop. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

Here is where I complain again that when I post pictures on my blog they end up looking really dark. If you want more accurate pictures check out the ones in the Ravelry and Etsy links above, or go to my deviantArt account (link on the side -->) to see pictures of all my current patterns.

Anyway, the idea for this just kind of came out of nowhere. I think I was having a nostalgia trip and ended up remembering this cute little book from when I was a kid and thought that it would be perfect for an amigurumi. Plus I had a lot of extra yarn in this odd shade of brown from a scarf I knitted a while ago and couldn't really think of anything else to use it for, but luckily it was a great match for the mouse's fur so everybody wins.

More stuff should be coming soon so long as I can tear myself away from the Game of Thrones books. :P

Free Pattern: Mini Link Amigurumi

A 6" tall amigurumi of Link from The Legend of Zelda. The pattern is available as a PDF download on Ravelry or you can find it written below. If you have any questions feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

This pattern is probably about a year old. I was hesitating putting it up because the first amigurumi I made from this pattern wasn't that good and I wanted to redo it. Here is a picture of them side-by-side.
Left: Old version, Right: New version

The changes I made were:

- Used a different skin-colored yarn that was less shiny
- Used a brighter yellow yarn for the hair and belt buckle
- Changed the arms to allow them to be movable and not jut out of the body at an odd angle
- Replaced the yarn eyes with actual safety eyes
- Used black crochet thread to form a mouth
- Sewed the hair on better so it wouldn't rise up off the head
- Crocheted tighter stitches
- Minor pattern adjustments

There was also a version of this amigurumi made between these two, but I ran out of dark green yarn while making the new version and decided to rip it apart for more yarn. That one was pretty crap anyway, it turned out too big with lots of holes in it (one of my looser-crocheting phases I guess), plus the color I used for the skin was awful. I plan on tearing apart the rest and using it to make another new version to sell.

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in dark green, light green, brown, yellow, white
▪  Crochet thread in black
 F hook (3.75 mm)
▪  Stuffing
▪  6 mm safety eyes
 Scissors
 Tapestry needle

Difficulty: Medium-Easy
You should know how to work in the round, increase, decrease, change colors, slip stitch, half double crochet, double crochet, and triple crochet.

Pattern: Gengar Amigurumi

A 6" tall Gengar amigurumi. The pattern is available on Ravelry and on Etsy. If you have any questions feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

This was a custom request from a customer, and I am so happy they asked me to make a Gengar. He is one of my favorites, yet I had never really thought about doing him. I was a bit sad to ship him off, but I can always make another.

I struggled for a bit trying to figure out how to best do his teeth before settling on black crochet thread. It was the perfect size, though it was a bit tricky trying to sew it in a straight line. I still need more sewing practice. :P

Pattern: Psyduck Amigurumi

A 6" tall Psyduck amigurumi. The pattern is available on Ravelry and on Etsy. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

I haven't been crocheting as much as I would like lately as I've been getting distracted with other hobbies, but I'm coming back! I have a few patterns to put up and have an idea for a tutorial that I would like to do. Been coming up with a few new ideas as well, so hopefully that should be able to get me back on track!

Anyway, not much to say about this guy. It gave me a bit of practice with using felt and sewing thread, which I don't work with that often but I would like to start using more.Plus I have an excess of gold yarn that I want to use up, so it helped with that. I have a couple other new Pokemon patterns to put up so expect those soon as well.

Free Pattern: 3DS XL Pokeball Cover

A 3DS XL Pokeball cover. It is  6.5” tall, 4.5” wide, the perfect size for one 3DS XL. You can download the pattern as a PDF on Ravelry or you can find it written below.

I said I would do this for the other types of DSs, so here is the 3DS XL version. You can find the 2DS version here.

Ugh, I don't know why the pictures look so bad on my blog. The red looks practically neon. =/
I've been in a bit of a crochet slump recently, and I apologize for a lack of patterns. I am in much need of some new ideas, so if you have anything you would like to see me crochet go ahead and drop me a message. I would appreciate it!

Pattern: Groudon Amigurumi

A 7" tall Groudon amigurumi. The pattern is available on Ravelry and on Etsy. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

I've been wanting to do a Groudon amigurumi ever since I heard about the Ruby/ Sapphire remakes, especially since I had already done a Kyogre one. I was a bit reluctant to start because Groudon is a lot more complicated than Kyogre, but he turned out better than I had hoped! The embroidery was actually really fun; normally I have a harder time with it. Also, there's something funny about having a cute little plush of something so angry looking.

Pattern: Giant Wailord Amigurumi/ Pillow

A 18" long Wailord pillow (or extra large amigurumi). The pattern is available on Ravelry. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

I am so happy I actually finished this. I had to start over three times, each time being over halfway done. I may have carpal tunnel now. But it was totally worth it!  This guy now has a permanent place on my bed. He is such a good pillow and an even better cuddle thing.

Also, I just got some Etsy books in from the library, so hopefully once I'm done with them I will be able to start selling some items! Got a few things I need to sort out beforehand too.

Pattern: Pokemon Hoenn Starters Amigurumi

A set of 5" tall amigurumi of the Hoenn Starters from Pokemon! The patterns are available on Ravelry:
Treecko
Torchic
Mudkip
Or you can find them all as a set here.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

I have been so excited about the Ruby/Sapphire remakes that I decided to crochet the starters for the games. I fully intend on making sets of the rest of the starters as well.

Also, I hope to start selling actual items on my Etsy shop very soon! Hopefully within the next week or two. These will definitely be put up for sale, as well as the rest of the starters when I eventually make them.

Pattern: Tom Nook Amigurumi

A 7" tall amigurumi of Tom Nook from Animal Crossing. The pattern is available on Ravelry. If you have any questions feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

Really happy with how this turned out. I usually try to avoid working with felt if I can, but with this one I didn't really have any other options without making it look messy. I'm also really happy this guy can stand on his own. Thank god for big tails.

I bet if you used a size or two smaller hook for everything except the head you could also make the Nooklings as well. Might have to try that in the future.

Pattern: Oshawott Amigurumi

A 5.5" amigurumi of Oshawott from Pokemon. The pattern is available on Ravelry and on Etsy. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. I saw a picture of an adorable Oshawott plush online and had to crochet one. Unfortunately I didn't have the right color aqua for the body so I had to settle for light blue, but I think I kind of like it better.

Free Pattern: Mini Eevee Amigurumi

A 5" tall little Eevee amigurumi. You can download the free PDF pattern on Ravelry or find it written below. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at icrochetthings@gmail.com.

This is the third version of this pattern that I've made. The first time I didn't write the pattern down, and when I tried to replicate it the second time it turned out much bigger than expected. This one looks almost exactly like the original, except I modified the neck fur a bit to make it look more fluffy. Also, I adjusted the ears so the color change isn't so jagged.

Materials:
▪  Worsted weight yarn in medium brown, dark brown, cream, black
▪  E hook (3.50 mm)
  Stuffing
▪  6 mm safety eyes
▪  Scissors
